Gala Dinner to mark 20-year anniversary for Gapsted Wines

Gapsted Wines is marking its 20th year in operation with a black-tie gala dinner on August 19 – and you’re invited!

The gala dinner, which is open for anyone to attend, is the perfect opportunity to meet some of the winery’s key personnel and learn more about Gapsted Wines’ long history. Equally important though, we’ll be talking about where we’re headed as a business and what that may mean for you, our customer.

Gapsted Wines’ journey began in 1996, when the founding partners - Shayne Cunningham, John Cavedon, Pat and Kevin Murtagh, the Bailey family, Jim Moularadellis, Bill Moularadellis and Richard Carson - got together to discuss the winery partnership.

What was once a paddock, a home to a few kangaroos and cattle belonging to the Rayner Family, is now modern winery, and most of the families committed and involved in the development of the business are still involved today.

Fast forward to today and the winery, which is the largest in the Alpine Valleys wine region, now employs 55 staff, with an additional 15 people employed during vintage. In 2016 we processed 6,242 tonnes of grapes and 1.85 million litres of wine, figures that are likely to be surpassed in this year’s vintage.

We also export to nine countries, including China, Norway and England.

The winery and business has evolved from contract processing grapes for others, to having an extensive range of regional award winning wines, a cellar door and gourmet restaurant using regional produce.

Overall the goals of the business are still the same; that is to be the best producer of premium regional wines in Victoria, with a focus on wines produced from grapes sourced from the King and Alpine Valleys.

The Gapsted team is also committed to the development of alternate grape varieties which are less known, such as Fiano, Saperavi, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Petit Manseng.

Our 20th year anniversary will be a banquet to celebrate our milestone, but also a wonderful opportunity to experience some older vintage wines from our museum cellar. We will also see the evolution of our classical varietal wines and styles, and taste the emerging wine varieties. Throughout the night we will talk you through our wines, and with the support of some of the business owners we will recap some of the highlights of Gapsted Wines.

To attend this very special evening, simply visit our online store to purchase your tickets – seats are strictly limited. If you have any queries, please contact our cellar door on 03 5751 9101.
