Why you should visit Victoria's High Country this Spring

Spring is the perfect opportunity to visit Victoria's High Country, the warmer months an ideal time to enjoy the diverse array of events and festivals planned for the region.

And, if you're looking for somewhere to stay, a number of accommodation providers have come up with some very special offers for you. Scroll down to view these exclusive offers!

New to the event schedule on September 8 is 5Zero (www.5zero.com.au), a social cycling event that takes riders from Bright to the majestic views of Clearspot along scenic forestry roads. The event, which is designed to have a zero environmental impact, will give all money raised to the Alpine Community Plantation to help maintain trails in Mystic Mountain Bike park.

On October 6, car enthusiasts will enjoy the annual Myrtleford Show'n'Shine & Swap Meet (@choppedandchangedkustomclub on Facebook), which will include a display of classic and custom cars, motoring memorabilia and merchandise sales, along with food stalls, bar and live music.

On the same day (October 6) we'll be holding our Spring Long Lunch, which this year will be held outdoors (weather permitting). Enjoy great company and a delicious five-course meal with matched wines, all set against the stunning Ovens Valley backdrop. Tickets, which must be purchased beforehand, are available now.

The Mytleford Show (www.themyrtlefordshow.com.au), now in its 71st year, is being held on Saturday October 27. This authentic country festival showcases regional life at its best, and will feature wood chopping, shearing, horse events, cheese making, dog jumping, just to name a few of the activities you'll get to enjoy. We'll also have our wines there!

Another annual event worth the trip is the Bright Spring Festival (www.brightspringfestival.com.au), which runs from October 21 to November 6. Activities include open gardens, markets, an art walk and fireworks, to name a few.

Arts aficionados are likely to enjoy Spring Arts in Beechworth (https://beechworthartscouncil.org.au/), which runs from October 26 to November 25. This year artists and crafters are being encouraged to explore and translate ‘elements of indigo’ – drawing on the North East shire’s landscape, sky, seasons, colours, topography, botany, crops, animals and birds – and to depict these as visual designs. Artists will then demonstrate their art practice in a series of open studios in Beechworth, Stanley, Three Mile and Wooragee.

Additionally - and to tie in with the Beechworth Celtic Festival (November 9-11 - www.beechworthcelticfestival.com.au) - selected entrants will then be asked to make up their designs in ways that interpret the form of a kilt, or a garment that covers a wearer from navel to knees.

A highlight of the Celtic Festival is the Old Goal Tattoo (ticketed event), which features music, dance and pageantry designed to salute the original ANZACs.

On the same weekend as the Celtic Festival (November 9-11), Bright's Iconic Rod Run (www.brightsiconicrodrun.com.au) will showcase hundreds of street rods, classic and custom cars. This is car lovers heaven, a smorgasbord of exquisitely maintained and superbly detailed automobiles on display along the picturesque streets of Bright!

And, don't forget, on November 3 and 4 Gapsted Wines will have its annual Melbourne Cup Weekend Shed Sale. Held at the winery, this is where you can save more than 60% on a wide range of quality wines.
