Ballerina Canopy 2017 Durif - Gapsted Wines

"While a Northeast Victoria stalwart, it is interesting to see a different shade of durif in the cooler Alpine Valleys. This is dense, sure, amped with a plummy chocolate-clad carapace of firm tannins, gritty and mouth pummelling. Yet there is also a pine-anise-menthol coolness to the wine, that proves engaging. Plenty of time in these bones."
92 Points SILVER - 2020 Halliday Wine Companion

"This wine is quite measured for a durif, which is terrific to see. The fruit is bright yet soft and in the mulberry, dark cherry sphere. Yes, the tannins are plentiful, but they are in tune with the density of the wine. Oak introduces a scented vanilla aspect into the wine. I love the brightness and energy. One for the cellar." - Toni Paterson, The Real Review

THE WINE: This wine displays a deep inky red colour. The nose shows intense spice, vanilla, raisins, fruitcake and blood plums. These complex aromas lead to a palate of intense spicy ripe plum characters with complex toasty oak. This wine is weighty and robust with harmonious tannins.

FOOD MATCHES: Try with beef cheeks and roasted parsnip.
